How to Make Fruit Leathers

Create your own delicious and healthy fruit leathers with this simple step-by-step guide

1

Prepare the Fruit

Wash and peel your chosen fruits. Remove any seeds or pits. For best results, use ripe, sweet fruits.

2

Create Fruit Puree

Blend the fruit in a food processor or blender until smooth. You can add a small amount of water if needed.

3

Strain (Optional)

For a smoother texture, strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove any remaining pulp or fibers.

4

Add Sweetener (Optional)

Taste the puree and add honey, maple syrup, or sugar if desired. Start with small amounts and adjust to taste.

5

Spread the Puree

Pour the puree onto a dehydrator tray or baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread evenly to about 1/8 inch thick.

6

Dehydrate

Dry at 135°F (57°C) for 6-12 hours in a dehydrator, or in an oven at the lowest setting with door slightly open.

Tips for Success:

  • Use very ripe fruits for the sweetest flavor
  • Combine different fruits for unique flavor profiles
  • Test dryness by touching - it should be tacky but not sticky
  • Store in airtight containers in a cool, dry place
  • Properly dried fruit leather can last 1-2 months
  • For extended shelf life, use a vacuum sealer - vacuum-sealed fruit leather can last 6-12 months when stored properly
